About

Welcome to the RMCUMC Prayer Shawl Ministry. Please comment if you have any additional questions, we'd be happy to assist. We were inspired by this website. They have tons of information and provide guidance if you're looking to start a group of your own in your community.

Who are you?
As a group we are a newly-formed community of knitters and crocheters who are seizing the Kingdom in the name of our Lord using our God-given talents.

Personally, my name is Rebecca Wooten. I am the contact person for the group and maintain the blog. I can answer any of your questions or direct you to someone who can!

Who can join?
In short, anyone! No experience is necessary, we are a group with tons of different ability levels and there are several women who are here to assist those of you who are learning! Check out our tutorials at any time if you need a refresher or you get stuck. Our community grew out of the Ridge Manor Community United Methodist Church, however we welcome all denominations. The only requirement is that you work joyfully in the name of our Lord.  :) Snowbirds are more than welcome to participate long distance as well. We can keep you updated on what the group is up to and how you can help.

When/Where do you meet?
We meet at the Ridge Manor Community United Methodist Church. The calendar will be updated regularly, keep checking!

Why prayer shawls?
Prayer shawls have been around for centuries as a way to provide comfort and mediation to the owner. They are used for warmth, comfort, and as a reminder that they are loved both by the creator of the shawl and their Creator with a capital "C." This is a spiritual practice so we say a blessing prior to beginning the work asking God to bless our practice as well as the receiver. We also give thanks upon completion of the shawl, and write an additional prayer to be sent with the shawl to the receiver. You can check our prayers page for ideas, or write your own. :)

Do you do more than prayer shawls?
Absolutely! So many things can be made and donated to those in need, prayer shawls are only the beginning. If you see a need I encourage you to address it and bring it to the attention of the group!

Where do you donate?
Wherever we see a need, God always provides guidance in accordance with His will. If you're aware of a group or charity that needs our talents, please bring it to our attention!

How can I join?
Show up to the meeting, seriously this is the most welcoming community of people you'll ever meet in your life! :) You can also contact Rebecca Wooten (me) through the comment section of the blog and I can give you more information.

I'm not interested in joining, but I'd still like to help...
In addition to your prayers, we would love donations of yarn, needles/hooks, etc. Let us know if you'd like to help but don't know how, we can fit a job with your abilities, there's always something to be done!
